Anyone elses motor not heat up?

My motor doesn't get very warm at all. It barley gets past the normal line and sometimes stays inbetween the C and normal line. I've change the thermostat to see If that would help. It's got a 185 degree thermostat in it. I know these motors run cool but is this normal? Anyone else have the same problem? Thanks for the help

Are you sure the engine is actually running that cool, or could it be the gauge not reading correctly?
If the heater blows hot, but the gauge says the engine isn't running very warm, it could just be the gauge.

It doesn't blow very warm air it takes it awhile to heat up. I'm gonna get some aftermarket gauges and put in there. Like you say those old factory gauges can't really bed trusted to much. It's always ran pretty cool I've had it or over a year now and it's always ran cool. I ha a 84 just like it and it ran cool but not as cool as this on does!

If the heater isn't getting warm, then the engine may well be running too cool.
I know you said you changed the thermostat, but new doesn't always mean good.

Yeah I know new doesn't mean good but the old one wasn't bad. I put a new one in cause I thought the old one was stuck open cause it never got hot either. Took forever to het warm when it was cold out. The lines and everything heat up like there supposed to. I thought about takeing the fan off to see if it would make it run alittle warmer.

that wierd because my meter doesnt say it is barely warm but when I get out of my truck the motor is really warm and it stays like that for a long time after I shut it off.

The "idiot" gauges are not much better than "idiot" lights and need to be replaced with actual mechanical gauges if you want definitive readings of oil pressure and coolant temperature.

I replaced the guages. She runs right at about 185-190. Id say that the guage was reading wrong. I replaced all the guages with mechanical instead of the crappy electrical ones! Thanks for the input

I've got another question. What would be the temperature range? What would be considered hot on these motors? 210? 220? Also what is the oil pressure supposed to be at? It runs at about 40psi down the road and about 20 or so at idle.

When I first got my truck the temp that it usually ran at was right about the O and R in NORMAL lol Stupid gauges. But then I replaced the stat because every now and then the truck would overheat and put a 185 stat in it. About a month later my water pump went out so I replaced that. Now, it runs right on the normal line so I think it is just the way it is because no matter how long it runs or how much I drive it, it doesn't get any warmer. Plus, when I replaced the water pump and was waiting for the stat to open, the gauge got up to the A in normal before it opened. Of course there wasn't any coolant in the block because of changing the pump but it hasn't overheated since. Just runs cool now.

My truck did this as well.

Changed the thermostat as you did, no change in the reading.

Later I added an electric fan, set the fan to kick on at a reasonable point, now the temp gauge shows a higher reading.

Hmmm, still like that? Warm heater/radiator hoses and motor/exhaust parts?
