I was about to replace the fuel line kit, and I noticed that on top of the injector right up front, on the passenger side, it varies from the other 7. It has a cap like fitting above the plastic T cap that I am going to replace. I was wondering what that caps was, and or purpose, and how it removes? In other words the fuel line cap screws down into this part, and then the return line kit T is below it. Any replies appreciated.
Nothing is missing, it is possible that it is not snapped all the way down, but I think that is just how some caps fit.
There is a member that puts one of his old orings between the T and the line nut to hold the cap firm. I have never done this but can see the logic behind it.
I believe I torqued that line down pretty tight. I was a bit concerned when I realized it didn't go as far down as the others. All of the other caps and nuts have next to zero gap in between them and they aren't leaking. Only that one there with the big gap leaks. I'm going to do the o-ring trick on that one there and hope for the best.
The 6.9 engines did not have the timing pulse sensor that I think you are asking about.
You can see the pulse sensor in this picture.
When you unscrew the injection line from the sensor, use a second wrench to keep the sensor from turning, after the injection line is off, then turn the sensor off.
hey dave, it is a 7.3. Everything has been a breeze until I got to it. The thing is dry as a desert bone compared to the other 7 fuel line tops. I am backing up with a second wrench. Did not want to break loose to save my life. Have the penetrating oil working on it now. I knew everything was going too good to not have a hangup somewhere along the way.
I'll probably snap the head off the injector. hehe
My friends have always said i could tear up a ballbearing.
That is one clean engine Dave, you must have clicked that photo off the assembly line plant.
I'll give it another go in a few minutes after the penetrating oil sets in.
