Howdy all
I have installed a triple disc torque convertor in my '01 F250 SD 7.3 with the 4R100. The problem that I am experiencing is that after it warms up in drive it sounds like someone is throughing gravel up at the bottom of the floor board. Could this be that the convertor has trown a spring or someother part or does it sound like the flexplate is broken? It has me stumped and would greatly appreciate any input.
Thanks

Couple more questions... Who makes the converter? Does it make this noise all the time after it's warmed up? Is there a change in sound below 37 mph and over 40? Why did you have to replace the converter? What else did you do when the converter was installed?
I purchased the convertor from Trans. Convertors out in Arizona.Yes it makes noise all the time after its warmed up. I haven't taken it over 25 since I didn't want to tear anything else up. The reason I installed the convertor was i had rebuilt the trans and didn't want to reinstall the old one. I wanting to find out what the problem is before I go any further. What does a broken flexplate sound like?

Well a broken flex plate can have the "gravel" sounds, but so can a loose T/C. Couple guys have had that problem, may want to check that the nuts are tight on the converter. Also, this was a problem on the OEM, E99 4r100 converters. It only made this noise while "unlocked", so when you were going over 37mph, the T/C locked, and the noise went away.
The OEM T/C was multi disc also, and the ears on the steels had poor fitments in the converter and would rattle back and forth when unlocked. But Mark is the tranny man, he'll steer ya right.
Thanks for all the input but I'm tired of trying to figure it out so I just got done ordering a Banks Torque convertor, ATS Stage 2 trans. and a new Flexplate. Also going to order a Banks Transcommand and a Edge Evolution. As an old gentleman told me years ago "Screw the dum S**T".
