300 Parts Interchange
However, just incase the worst happens, I have access to a Ford van with a 300 in it. It was used as an old work van for my father in laws business. I don't know exactly what year it is, but it appears to be from the late 70's - early 80's. Could the old block and head be used in a later EFI application? I searched, and Im sure someone has done it, but I couldn't find it. Anway, if it would work, its nice to know I could rebuild it and have a fresh long block to go in it should the need arise.
Thanks for the help,
Joey
The blocks are near identical except for some minor changes. When they switched to EFI, the port for the fuel pump on the block was filled, since the pump went into the fuel tank. If you're using a carb'd block for an EFI engine, just get a block off plate.
The other difference is on the intake/exhaust side. The EFI has 16 holes for the manifold bolts where the carb has 13. The 3 extra are only for 'ease of installation' of the EFI intake/exhaust so the difference is moot.
The heads are different though. They're all interchangeable and will work, but the EFI head has fast burn characteristics that help the EFI. Not sure what happens if a non-EFI head is put on an EFI. It'll work, but dunno if it'll cause running issues.
So all in all, not a lot of differences.
