I have had a couple of threads about problems I've had to fix this 94 F350 I just bought. This is the first diesel truck I've owned and it had some issues but I got it to haul a boat 2000 miles on a tight budget. I figured some repairs would be done so the first thing I did when I got it was schedule it into a shop to fix the exhaust leak in the pipes going to the turbo. The mechanic said the manifold was broke and would have to be replaced with the up pipes. He couldn't do it. Two more mechanics wouldn't even look at it. One other did look at it and said it was the down pipe but would have to be ordered then a week later it was not available anywhere.
Some other problems came up with oil leaks and more frustrations. I had the truck in the ford dealer for a brake switch recall and asked if they could tell me how much it would cost to fix the exhaust but when they said they would only look at it if I paid an hour of labor, I passed.
I never could see any broke parts. I finally started loosening the exhaust clamps to just try to fix it myself. I had to liquid wrench all my old 1/2" ratchets and breaker bars but an hour later I had it loosened up, lined up and leak free. My big ugly truck is kind of quiet and as soon as an oil pressure block gets here from California, I'll have the oil leak fixed that I think was from mech 3 installing an oil pressure sending unit with a 1/2" ratchet.
Lesson learned, get off my lazy butt and do it myself. Thanks to this site for the good information that has helped me get the job done.
I can understand mechanics declining towork on our motors, because a lot of them don't understand them or have a clue, so anything they do will be hit and miss. But there is not much understanding about the exhaust it is no different than any other vehicle. lol
i have found it to be way better to learn as much from here as i can then try and take it to a shop there is only one i really trust anymore and its 12 hours away from me until i can move back home
