BFG muds vs Goodyear MT/R's

Kind of stuck between these two tires, talked to a couple of people at school who run MT/R's and they say they are the best tire they have ever owned. Another guy at my school runs BFG muds and he likes 'em a lot. Reviews are very close to eachother, but giving the MT/R's better reviews in rockcrawling. Tirerack.com goes for the Goodyears but other say BFG's.

What do ya'll think, especially those that have ran both?

I'm looking for a very aggressive looking tire that doesn't suck on the road which is where i'll be doing 95% of my driving.

Also any other recommendation for tires? I don't really do much driving, less than 10k miles a year.

The tires on my current daily driver are thornbirds, so I think anything will be better than those.

I'd like somethign that isn't as loud as them and doesn't pull all over the road like they do, but looks aggressive like them. With as little driving as I do, if the tire only last 30k miles that's 3 years or more to me.

With the mileage thing, keep in mind that when you get older you'll be driving a lot more.

The goodyearMT/Rs are a better tire for rockcrawling. They have a softer rubber compound I think. But, with my experience they tend to wear out faster, at least on SDs compared to the BFG M/ts
BFGs will give you more mileage than the MTRs ar least from what I have seen.
MTRs will outperform the BFGs in the mud though.

As far as other tires to consider that are fairly aggresive, with low road noise, and give pretty good miles you could look into the Parnelli Jones Dirt Gripz

Hope this helps.

The Parnelli jones are fairly expensive!!! About 100 more per tire than the BFG or MT/R's. I'd like something ~$200 or under.

What about the Super Swamper TSL radial's or TRXUS MT?

The TSL radials are very good mud tires. Get pretty good miles out of them. On the street the do make sum noise. Ex: the noise is barely heard over the PSD engine so with a gas you'll hear them.
Haven't had experience with theTRXUS MT but I think that they would have less roise noise than the TSLs but not do as well in the mud due to their tread design.
Actually in a mud tire test in one of the mags the goodyear MT/Rs came in 3rd. The TSL radials in 4th, the BFG M/T in 7th I think.
1st was the Boggers, and 2nd was the SSRs.

and yes, that is the only downside to the PJs, the price.

What size tire were you looking at?

Hope this helps.

I've ran the TSL and the BFG M/Ts and seen quit a few rigs with the MTRs. IMO...

TSL radials or the BFG M/T. Since you are not going to be putting many miles on them each year, then I woulld go for one of these.

MTRs are the best overall offroad tire out there right now, but the BFG M/T will beat them in the mud and the TSLs will beat the BFGs.

35x12.50 or wider, it has 35x14.50 thornbirds on it right now and they overpower the straight pipes and cd player up all the way because they are so loud. I won't be doing much offroading which is why the TRXUS M/T's look good because they are cheaper, better on road and are still probably good in the mud. The question would be are they better than BFG's in the mud?

So i'm stuckbetween TSL Radials, TRXUS and BFG's.

I've kind of ruled out the TSL Radials, I'm stuck between the TRXUS and BFG's.

I know of two guys running the TRXUSs and they like them allot. One guy actually takes his Jeep offroading in them and likes the way they perform. Another has them on a F-150 and never wheels with them, but likes the way they perform on the pavement.
I don't think you can go wrong with either (IMO), but it comes down to price and preference I guess. I think the TRXUSs look tougher though.

I think I have my mind set on the TRXUS.

like they all said, the bfg lasts longer on the road, cause it has a harder compound, but is worse when it comes to rockcrawling cause its more outdated and harder. In the mud theres not that big of a difference. That mud test in the mag was only one type of mud where skinny tires prevail. If it had been bottomless the wider tires would have done better. anyway as for the rockcrawling, bfg is soon goin to have that taken care og with the 35, 37 and 39.5x13.5 krawler tire. the mt/r 40 inch tire will be out very soon

What really sucks is that 14.50 tires are so expensive! The 14.50's on it look so good now and the spare is a 35x12.50 and it just doesn't look as good in my opinion. But all the super swamper 14.50's are expensive!! I can't afford an extra $300 or so for tires only two inches wider.
