i got 2 of them replaced with brass plugs, i baought 3 of them on the way. now once i get all 3 of them how do i run the vac lines and set the timing. I have never set timing on and engine before
you'll find a 1/2 bolt and hold down clamp at the base of the distributor. you change what is called 'base timing' by loosening that bolt slightly and rotating the distributor, then retightening the bolt.
start shopping for a cheap timing light i guess? you don't need anything fancy, the simplest cheapest one you can find will work
on your sniff test, do they rev the engine up to a certain rpm and hold it for a time, then let it idle again? do they run the rear tires on rollers?
clockwise is advance and counter-clockwise is retard
not very much movement makes a lot of change. without a timing light you'll have no way of knowing where it is before you make a change, or where it is after, and little hope of passing the E. tire pressure is very important on the roller test
most tires have the max psi molded into the fine print on the side of the tire, what do you usually run them at?
what i was getting at is if you go into the test with a low tire, it could fail the test with a good engine tune that would've passed the test had the tires been aired properly
