Even for just a week your wheel bearings will be exposed to water, dirt, road salt, sand, etc. all of which can kill a bearing quicker than snot. You can drive with it exposed, but may cause considerable headaches later.

Something you may try. Plumbing test caps. There is one known as a jiffy cap. It is made of rubber and slips over an open pipe to do a water test on the system. It is held on with a hose type clamp. These are pipe OD size, and I would say they will be about 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 inches. There are other larger and smaller sizes.Lowes or Home Depot usually carry them. They are not very expensive. I cannot quite picture exactly what your situation is, so just a suggestion that may help.
