propane injection

I am looking at a possibility of adding propane injection to my 1995 Ford F-150 4x4. I have found a company called Welsh Technologies (http://www.welshtec.com) that sells what I am looking for. They sell kits for just about anything. Has anybody else tried their products yet???

I thought propane injection only worked on diesel trucks?

propane is a diesle thing, i doubt it would do anything for a gas engine.

Converting gasoline engines to propane is nothing new. I'm not too sure how the dual fuel thing would work. Propane is somehing like 105-110 octane so there are some timing differences required. Propane burns cleaner and, in an engine modified to work with it, will produce more power. Somehow I think those benefits would be lost in switching back and forth. Don't know about the simultaneous use of both fuels either, that has always been a Diesel thing. Small amounts of propane fumigant causes more complete combustion of the Diesel fuel. Less pollution, less smoke, better fuel economy, more power. Can't see where it would do much if anything if added to a gasoline engine where you're trying to control the fuel/air ratio. Go ahead and check them out but make sure your BS detector is engaged.

Question propane injection

Propane is NOT just for diesels.......

Have you gotten a quote on a system price yet??
If the system cost is reasonable, I believe it would be a good investment.
I have not tried or know anyone who has tried thier product....
Welshtec provides a controller (Computer) with there systems, (From what I read at there website)
Propane is a very powerful fuel when the engine is properly tuned for it. It would have to increase power AND performance when used in conjuction with Gasoline.

Not to hijack your post or anything, but strangeranger, you said that in a correctly modified engine, propane makes MORE power? What are those modifications? I was always under the impression that you gave up some power when you run propane? Thank you

now that i think about it i have heard of gas engines using propane but you have to heavilly modify the motor i wouldnt go for it probly too much work for the results.

Exclamation propane injection

The required changes to run an engine on LPG are VERY basic (Timing adjustment mostly, Recurve the Dist.) to the engine itself....
He is NOT talking about converting to LPG, I believe he wants to inject it addition to the Liquid fuel (Gasoline) he is running......It is not a new thing, It has been done with gasoline engines for years.....There is a performance boost in addition to cleaner emmissions!!!!
A DUAL FUEL setup (One that will run on Gasoline or LPG) that is mentioned above SACRIFICES much in performance and economy as the engine must be tuned to run on BOTH fuels as opposed to being tuned for maximum performance on a SINGLE fuel (Gasoline OR LPG)......

A truck setup for LPG ONLY simply has a Tank, Pressure regulator, Vaporizer and a LPG carburetor....
As opposed to a GASOLINE ONLY setup with a Tank, fuel pump, Carburetor (or fuel injectors)
A truck setup for DUAL FUEL operation will have BOTH fuel delivery systems.......

Pump Gasoline has a Maximum octane of 93 (Here anyway) as opposed to LPG with an octane rating of 105 or more...

So with proper adjustments one should get more Performance/Economy with the higher octane fuel.......

The setup he is talking about over at welshtec.com uses a small (3-8 gallon) LPG tank in addition to the existing Fuel system (Gasoline) An onboard computer handles everything!!!!!Injecting the higher octane fuel(LPG) and adjusting the timing as necessary...(As I read it anyway)

ftwfred

I would still like to know the system cost if it has been quoted to you!!!!....

o ya i know now. i seen a few. i was thinkin of the ford courier..

as for the propane injection i know what kind he meant, uses the diesel concept to inject a small amount in the fuel to raise octane, and *** more fuel to make it cleaner and more power...sounds like a good idea...

Ok, here's the deal... I got a reply back from Welsh Tech. I'll post what they said.......

Thank you for your inguiry into Welsh Technologies products. Our Mizer-MFS Multi-Fuel System is a ideal application for your vehicle. The Mizer-MFS is a economic solution to increase the millage and performane of your vehicle while reducing emissions to near-zero levels. The Mizer-MFS treats, controls, and injects a small measured quanity of propane into the engine to maximize the combustion efficienty of the gasoline or diesel fuel. Instead of burning up the unburnt fuel into the cataltyic conveter or throwing it as harmful exhaust into the air, the system allows maximized combustion of all fuels.
The Mizer-MFS is easy to install with the engine compartment; comes with a step-by-step installation manual and sells for $275.00. A tank or reservoir is required to store the propane on-board the vehicle. We sell our patented Safety Reservoirs starting at $300.00 that includes a 'Zero-Release Quick Fill'; or a convential vehicle propane tank can be used; or even a barabue cylinder if properly mounted and vented, although not recommended.

The system is classified by the US Department of Energy as a 'dual-fuel' alternate fuel system and if installed with a perament reservoir or tank it allows for federal tax deductions and vehicle credits.

I would be happy to send you a brochure or you can look at our web site, www.welshtec.com; or call us with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Jonathan W. Welsh
President
WELSH TECHNOLOGIES, INC.

I sent a reply back with some more questions:

Where is the propane injected in the engine? How much performance and increased fuel economy can I expect if I were to install your system? If I were to purchase the system now, could I wait and purchase the safety reservoir later? What is your warranty and return policy?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
their reply:

A brochure is in the mail for you. The treated propane is injected into the intake manifold. Performance and increased fuel economy depends on the engine design efficeincy, engine condition, driver's habits, etc; we like to conservely say a 25% in fuel efficiency or better. The results on some vehicles are amazing. Yes you can purchase The Mizer-MFS first and use a barbecue cyclinder as the on-board fuel source, not recommended, and later on purchase a propane reservoir. All our products contain a one year repair or replace warranty.

You should receive the brochure next week. If you any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

What does everybody think??? I am tempted to check it out with the BBB to see if it's legit. or not. My truck is a 1995 F-150 4x4 5.spd with inline-6, with 201,000 miles and still running strong. I plan on keeping this thing untill the engine goes in it, and then swap in another engine. The truck is in pretty good shape. If this business is legit., then I am tempted to give it a shot. They sound like they know what they are talking about. Any opinions??

sounds like a good deal if there isnt a lot of work involed...the 300 runs lean to begin with so any extra would help...with a few minor mods (ehxaust, maybe a K&N FIPK or homemade version and good tune up) it might actually wake up the old 300...if i had the extra $$ and my dad let me mod my engine anymore id try it myself...as long as there isnt a lot of work...i seen them install one on a diesel on trucks last week and it seemed pretty easy and they had a switch u can use to turn it on or off...
