So I got the DTC for insufficient EGR pressure detected, I already did my research and I know that 90% chance it's the DPFE sensor. Now the issue I'm running into is that when I look at the parts stores websites I don't see the DPFE listed. What I do see listed is the EGR valve pressure sensor. Are they the same part just a different name? And does anybody have a walkthrough of replacing the DPFE? And this is on a 1998 2.5L manual trans with about 227k
However, I recommend that you buy one from the dealer or try to find a Motorcraft one. The aftermarket ones are a bit like playing darts while drunk. If you get lucky you might hit the board. The Motorcraft part is like doing it while sober. Don't ask me what to do if you are no good at darts either way.
Yea, looks like I will be going with one from RockAuto.com, heard some good reviews about their standard brand and I don't have money to go motorcraft right now, at this point I just need to pass emissions for this year, I can worry about long term later.
Check the Technical Section at the top of the Ranger "menu" for help on replacing the sensor.
How much of a price difference is there between the part from RockAuto (plus shipping) and the Motocraft one? Having to buy 2 or 3 off brands rather than the Motocraft one may be false economy.

well i was able to get the low dollar dpfe sensor from rockauto.com 2 day shipping for $43. the motorcraft for the same shipping option would have been $79 and I have to get the part shipped to me quick cause GA only gives you 30 days from the day you buy your truck to get emissions done and get your vehicle tagged while on a temporary tag and I'm running out of time. Unfortunately that means I gotta roll the dice with the cheap brand and hopefully pass emissions, then once that is done and over I can get the motorcraft one and just hold onto this one as a backup or jjust keep the motorcrraft as a backup for when the cheap one craps out.
