I can't believe that I'm asking a question about license plate lights, but I recwently bought an 01 Ranger and one of the license plate light covers was sitting in a cupholder. It looks likesomeone pried this off with a screwdriver. Does it just pop on to the plastic fitting that holds the bulb? The reason I ask is that it doesn't seem like there's much friction to hold the two together.
Secondly, the thing has a Ford bedliner in it but just has cleats on the sides. Has anyone had any luck using these as tie downs, or should I possibly think about getting at the tiwe downs in the bed? Thanks.
Well, I will answer my own first part of this question though I still welcome all answers about the bedliner/tie downs.
Someone did crack the license plate bulb lens cover in half. The bulb lens assembly is help in place under a bit of tension with a small plastic clip. Even if I cut or filed this clamp down I am not confident in the ability of glue or JB Weld to hold the whole thing together over the long haul. So I will pay the 6 bucks or so and get a new part, which apparently is made by Help! and might be at a local auto parts store so I don't have to order one or go to a junkyard. Replacing the bulbs is super easyas the harness is removed from the lens assembly with about a quarterturn and then you just pull the bulb out as usual.
The Ford bedliner on my truck has 2" holes to access the sidewall cleats. I would not rely on the cleats in the plastic bedliner to secure anything heavy. I am not sure if your cleats attach to the sidewall through the liner.
