The time has come for some new tires, so here's my problem:
The rig: a 73 F250 2wd
The tire size: a 235/85/R16 or there-about
The problem: I'm torn over the tread I should get. My dad thinks I should get matching street tires all around, for better traction/braking on pavement, but grandpa (the truck's PO) says that streets front and M/S rated tires for the back would be the way to go...
The truck will get driven mostly on the street, but I would like to drive it to the hills and go chugging 'round on the logging roads.
Just how much would my braking on pavement be affected if I put the M/S on the back? Or would its value off-road outweigh the areas it lacks in?
On my '76 F250 2WD, I am running 265/75/R16's in a M/S tread all the way around, and I am on pavement 95% of the time. The 265/75 will be the same height as your 235/85's, just a little over an inch wider. I have had no probs with braking or traction on pavement. A little wider might do the trick for you.
I have some basic all terrains on my 78, I drive about 50/50 on and off road, the way I look at it is if I need mud/snow tires on it to get to a certain spot I probably should be in my bronco and not in a 2wd. I do drive on ALOT of dirt and mountain roads when we go out shooting and such and have never had a problem
