ok my 99 psd has no power door locks ....... it has power locks but they dont work. so after my pistol and ipod went missing some time between sun. and today i think i better get them fixed. so i need the actuators all 4 of them. wheres the best place to get them....... a good brand for a good price. i seen some on ebay new for like 40 a pice. i have been putting them off for a while and i seem to forget to manul lock the doors and dangit look what happend. i was going to repair the stock ones but seems like a big task following the thread i read. so any suggestions on new ones
so the repair is fairly easy your sayin.... i read that same thread and seemed fairly diffucult. well im in a new place with no shop and limited tools. thats why i was wondering bout new ones.
It sounds more difficult than it is. Getting the actuator out, especially the first one, is way trickier than the repair itself. And, like Jason said, you're gonna take 'em out and reinstall them whether you do new ones or fix the existing ones. Worth a shot to save the $40 or so each. Once you do one, the rest go way quicker. Can't remember if the thread mentioned this, but when you take the end cap off the little motor, mark the pieces for correct orientation. If you reassemble 180 degrees off, your lock will be out of phase and will lock if you try to unlock, and vice versa.
Yeah the fix is easy pop the case apart, I only opened the case on the motor side therefore you only need to drill and re-fasten some of the thingys that connect the case together. I drilled and used zip ties, so I didn't have to wait for any adhesive to cure.
Once the motors out, you just pluck the little tabs open holding the end on and remove the square resister thingy, wrap it and put it all back together.
The most intimadating part is removing the actuator from the door, fronts are easier than the rears. On the 1st one I would take the whole lock and actuator out so you can see how the actuator separates from the lock mechanism. After you see how it comes apart you can do the rest with out taking the lock out, and it will go much faster on the next three. Start with one of the fronts first.
Good luck, I'm guessing but I think it would cost about $200 per door to have a shop do it, including actuators.
dude just fix it yourself, it worked for me.... only do 1 at a time so you can look at the other side to remember how it goes backtogether (helped me out!)
I charge $90 to repair all four doors of a crew cab on Craigslist. I run a drill on the rivets until they melt through, then pop the halves open. Use a small punch or screwdriver to pry the case ears off the brush housing and then wrap the resistor, spray alcohol in the housing to clean it up. You can only put the brush assembly on one way, so don't worry about that. After it's all fixed I put the halves together, zip tie the two rivet holes, and then heat a flathead screw driver with a torch, and then melt the pins back to the top half. Done 9 locks so far that way with no issues. I got it down to 20 minutes from the time I open the door to it's closed again LOL.

I did the lock mod last weekend, took me an hour for the drivers door, and 30 min for the passenger door. My friends can't believe that the repair was free. I can't believe it works as good as it does.
Saved me $90 + labor to have them fixed, and thats just on a supercab.
Thanks Pop- I only try to keep my head above water by saving a fellowFord guy a few bucks. Like others have said, how much would it cost to have all 4 locks replaced at the dealership?
And of course I have FTE to thank for my ability to fix these trucks!
