To anyone that donated to the I'm sorry thread, I'm truly sorry for getting everybody involved, it was apperantly at least in part a fraud, I'm not sure how much was true and how much was fake, but at least part of it was comepletely fake, just designed to milk good people out of their hard earned money, Again I apologize for getting people involved in this.
Star, **** happens, besides from what I saw I'm not anywhere near 100% convinced it was really a fraud - like he said himself, a con artist would never give out his personal information like name, address, and phone number. I'd like to think he was being honest, and then along the line someone somewhere got suspicious (not without reason, plenty of scammers on the intrawebs) and it all went downhill from there due to the domino effect. I guess we will eventually see how it really was if he does indeed return the money, but you have nothing to apologize for - you didn't put a gun to anyone's head and say "send money now!", you were just being a good person trying to help a stranger out - in my book being a good person deserves praises, so don't feel bad about something that wasn't in your control to begin with, and may not have even been what it looks like now.
The suspicious one was me, and belive me I spent several hours gathering proof and going over it to be positive before alerting someone to get it stopped until it could be further investigated. I didn't want to throw a monkey wrench into it if it was for real and I was mistaken. Like I said at least part of it was a bald faith lie by his own posts before this ever came up. I didn't want it shut down without proof but money was pooring in while I was gathering info and trying to figure out what to do about it, there was some other members helping me gather the info too.
Aah, okay, I see. Well, that's all just too bad, as it was such a great team effort - now the next time someone really absolutely 110% needs all the help they can get, and we could provide said help, we'll be all reluctant to do so cause of this mess we have on our hands now... Hope he does right by everyone and indeed returns the money.
LCAM, there were several of us cussin and discussin an recussin on what was going on there. When the post about the travel came up it was a red flag/// to much was going on without enough time for it to happen...
Star, dude, DONT WORRY ABOUT IT like you are...bad things happen to good people, BUT sooner or later, He will have to answer to someone, somewhere for what he is doing...
Who knows, it may have all been the truth, but with a little fib thrown in to really make everyone feel sorry for him... ya neva kno
Jmmartin, I missed all this part of the light-speed travel, but I see your point. Like I said, too bad a good thing went bad many good and willing to help folks were done wrong and will likely not be as willing to help out in the future...
Star, Don't worry about it. The only thing you did was brought a post to our attention.l Everyone who donated made the own decision to do so based on what they read. If it is all true, it's a shame what happened and that he lied about travel and what not. If it's a scam then shame on him for trying to exploit his father's death. I sent him money, but I did not send more then I could afford to lose. So in this case it is what it is and I decided to send the money on a post I read from a person I did not know.
What a piece of ****. I don't think it's your fault either Star. I was wondering if it was some kind of fraud when I was reading through it, but then I thought that maybe, JUST MAYBE, there was a decent person out there that was in need. Guess not, I wonder if there's a decent soul anywhere. Basturd.
Star don't worry about any of this. As has been said we all read it and made our on desisions. You are to be praised if anything for trying to help the guy. I didn't notice anyone else trying to step up till you and don did. If I feel anger at anyone it is this guy for what he did and how he did it. As I read the posts I started thinking of my grandpa and how I still tear up when I think of the things we did together and what he taught me. It was those feelings that made wnat to help him and I would like nothing better than to get 60 seconds alone with him. I wouldn't shoot him that is all the time I would need to brake half the bones in his body. Ok I am done the more I think about him the madder I get and for a crazy hillbilly that ain't good lol.
Hey Milt, said it to Don last night and I want to repeat it here, there simply is no apology due for reaching out and, in good faith, trying to help someone in need. If anything you should be praised for such a kind and unselfish gesture.
As for the recipient of the windfall, I'm holding out some hope he really needed the money for something worthy like his 2 sons. If not, I'd be happy to take my 60 seconds breaking the other 1/2 of his bones. Hope he learns a lesson about integrity and honesty....he certainly has a lot of good examples here at FTE.
You guys are great and showed it, I don't know if he needed it or not but it was based on a lie, so who knows. I am mad at myself mostly because now when a person is truly in need of some help it will not happen, or at least not on the scale you guys came through with. If he truly needed it he would have had it without the lying just the same.
He has said all moneys will be returned, we'll see. He did pm me and say he recieved mine and wanted to know how to handle it. So we'll see.
Milt neither you or Don have anything to be sorry for, in fact I call this site home mostly of it because of both you guys and several others like you. Like I said last night in the oregon post, I am proud to be part of a family of people that are brought together over something so simple as the trucks we own and love. FTE is truly a special place full of real good people!
