Actually, if you look at the wires that plug into the back of the Am/Fm/Cassette, you'll see that there are not enough wires to run all the speakers. One bank (plug) of wires is for power, dim switch, ground, etc. The other bank of wires is for the output to the speakers. There are only five wires output so it would be kind of hard to run 4 speakers with only 5 wires.....gotta have 8. I just put one in my mustang which by the way, had an amp connected to the factory am/fm/cassette and it was set up the same way.
You probably don't need to access the factory amp just use a wiring harness from radio shack and be sure not to connect the blue amp turn on wire because it will not work if you do
Yes, you have to get the connector off the amp to connect any aftermarket pigtail. The one at the CD player isn't connected to the truck or speakers directly, so you can't tie into it without using the factory amp.
so I'm supposed to run all 4 grounds to that single one?.... doesn't make sense. i've never heard of that... i'm sure it can't be good for the head unit
Read the instructions with your new head unit. If it says you need independent grounds, then you'll have to run new speaker wires or at least cut the factory ones after they split behind that connector.
