hey guys new here and have some questions as i am doing a fairly major build on my old 150
i am going to be putting in a a/c delete kit (replace compressor with idler) and i am wondering how much of the heat/ ac system i can rip out?
-the cooler up front?
-the big black plastic monstrosity on the pass. side of the fire wall?(sorry dont even know what goes on in there haha)
-for just some heat via the vent do i just need to leave the 2 coolant lines that go from the engine to the heatercore?
My 90 had an r12 system, so i just ripped most of it out. R12 is too expensive, you can convert it over but it never works very well.
I just ripped out the condensor, all the hoses. I left the comp in place, i would like to get one of those idler pulleys, but i never seen one personally and the pictures i saw of them they look kinda cheap and flimsy. Anyone have any luck with them?
The fire wall stuff: the accumulator is the big black thing poking out of the wall, that can go. Inside the black box is the evaporator core and heater core, as well as your heater fan and all the valves and flappers to work the air controls.
I never had one open on an f150, so no idea what it looks like in there. Usually you have to rip the dash apart to get into there though. If you got the energy to go in there and rip the evaporator out, go for it, but it's just a little aluminum core, probably only weighs a pound or two, personally i just left mine in there.
Also, no you cant just use a shorter belt, kinda hard to explain, but the way the belt routing is, you need something there where the a/c compressor is supposed to be for the entire belt system to work .
I, personally, took out the a/c compressor and smug pump. And used a piece of string at take measurements of the new belt routing and went to advance, about 15 minutes later I walked out with a new belt. Everything works fine without any other mods done.

There's different belt setups, on different engines and different years. I noticed OP didnt mention what year and engine he had. On my 90 with a 5.0 though, you need the comp, or an idler there, thats just how the belts are setup, i assume he has a similar setup seeing how he's talking about getting one of those a/c delete idlers.
