Hey guys quick question. i have a 76 f100 with a 360 with factory a/c. The compressor has long since been removed and id like to get rid of the big evaporator box on the passenger side. I hate how crowded it makes my engine bay and how hard it makes it to change that back spark plug. My brother has a 76 (or so he thinks) that came factory without a/c. Is there a panel on the passenger side i could just swap no go to the factory non a/c look or would i have to do a custom sheet metal job of some sorts? Any ideas? Thanks.
Yeah, there isn't a "plate" that bolts in place. A/C and non-A/C trucks used different firewalls.
Like hasteranger said, you can weld in the non-A/C section or you could fabricate a block off plate that will cover the (big) hole in the firewall.
Here's a picture of an A/C firewall...pretty big hole.
Why not just get a new compressor and run with a/c? Local junkyards in my area sell them for as little as 25 bucks with a warranty and you could be one of the few guys with a dentside that has working a/c
well i really dont want a/c, its an eye sore to me and probably 75% of vehicles ive had i ve removed it, the only thing i was concerned about was the heater core, i didnt know if it was in the dash or beside the evaporator.
