Well, some of you know I never got my dad's truck when he passed away in 1991, but it went to my younger brother who finished it off and sold it for parts. I ask him several times if he EVER comes across the vin to give it to me, I would love to know more about his truck as compared to mine.
So today, I was browsing through a filing cabinet and I found the vin on some garage paper work. This has been driving me nuts for a while now wondering how close my explorer is to his. Now I don't have anything other than the vin and memory to go from, so here it is, and I appriciate the decoding!

Her is a few pictures, which some of you might have seen already.
After my brother got his hands on it. I am still not sure of the paint color, or possible code, any ideas?
As for paint code I cant help ya, but the VIN reads as follows... F15= F 150 2WD, H= V8 351M CID 5.8 Liter 2 BBL carb assembled in Mahwah, NJ, 1977 truck numbered 80333. Hope that helps. any other VINs youre currious about go to LMC truck page 8 will give you a break down

Reason: looked at wrong line
Hard to judge by pictures, especially when you're looking at them on a computer screen, but I would say the color on your dad's truck looks like it could be either medium copper metallic (2) or copper metallic (Z). Both were codes used in '77.
Thanks guys I appriciate you taking the time to respond. It was so neat to find that vin number today. The curiosity has been eating at me for a while now. My truck is color code (Z), copper metallic which has more brown in it than my dad's. His had more orange in it.

F15 = F-150 2 Wheel Drive
H = 351ci V8 with a 2-Barrel Carburetor.
E = Mahhaw, NJ Assembly Plant.
This Explorer was built in January of '77.
Nice Explorer!
I added more pictures in the Explorer albums, Check 'em out...
Your 300ci Inline 6 is cooler than a 351 V8...!

Thanks for the additional information, I was wondering when it was built. I know mine was built in 3/77, and now his 1/77. I remember he was looking at it for a while at work, but I was trying to talk him out of it because his 73 explorer was real nice, and he had just added power steering to it.
Here he is about 1975 thinking he is Joe Cool
I don't remember when he bought it, I guess a Marti report would tell me that. I do remember helping him clean it up becuase he wanted to take it ( the 77) back home and show his mother because it was the first brand new vehicle he ever bought.
PS: Thanks for the Explorer pictres, and you can use my pictures, I don't mind at all.
