I got a 2" Autospring Steel leveling kit and I went to put it on and everything was going great until I try to put the strut in and it won't fit...? I can bolt the top in but can't get the bottom mount to go in. Am I missing something here, do I need a strut compressor?
I use a ratchet strap to pull the upper control arm down.
When you try jacking the lower control arm it only goes so far and then it starts lifting the whole truck.
Well I got it all in there. I did remove the sway bar link from the control arm but it was still off by a few inches. I used the strut coil spring compressor (one clamp, not both) to compress the spring just a couple of inches to put it back in there. I'm very pleased with the results, it looks so much better.
edub32,
I just bought a 2" Autospring. I debated between the 1 1/2" and the 2". I am hoping you can tell me a couple things.
1. How much higher is your front end than before? I have heard it actually might raise your front end more than 2". Is this true?
2. Does your truck look like it needs bigger tires now? Do you think there is too much wheel well showing? Does it look odd with stock tires? I am not trying to be smart here just looking for some honest answers. I don't actually know anyone that has this to look at.
3. How did your ride and handling change.
4. Did you have to adjust your headlights?
I am not looking forward to that install job, but I think I learned something from you. I will keep a strut compressor handy. Thank You Very Much!

You're going to be glad you got the 2". I think it might have raised it between 2.5"-3". I don't think it needs bigger tires but I may jump up to 285/65/18's when these wear out. The ride is still very good the only thing I've noticed different is that it is higher! I didn't even think to adjust the headlights and I never did either with my F350 w/ a 6" lift but that wouldn't be a bad idea. The install is not bad just have the right tools the first time and it will go with ease. The other side literally took me 10 minutes. The hardest part is detaching the upper ball joint. No problem. And as promised here are some pics.

edub32, Your truck looks great. It looks very level. That is the same look I am going for. Thanks for posting the pics and I appreciate the info. Again, your truck looks great!
looks great. This is what i want to get for my truck.. I'm torn on what brand to go with'
I would go with whatever is cheapest because I would imagine that they are essentially all the same. I definitely would go with the steel kits over the polyurethane ones as I've heard they tend to squeak and sag. I picked mine up slightly used on ebay for $37 shipped
Anyone have any opinions on whether or not I should get an alignment? I've heard of people going to get an alignment and they barely need one but still spend the $75 for it. I'm not a cheapskate but I'm not one to waste money on something I don't need.

I was talking to a guy that put a leveling kit on his z71 and said he had to get an alignment. But as if you will need one on your ford i don't know. I think it would be wise to get one just to make sure, especially if you got some nice tires.
