390 flywheel on a 360?

The FT engines only came in heavy duty trucks. The F-100 through F-350 got FE's only.

390 flywheel on a 360?

Would it be fair to say that you could run any flywheel on any engine if it was proffesionally ballanced?

390 flywheel on a 360?

IF it were drilled correctly and balanced right it would be impractical but it would work correctly.

390 flywheel on a 360?

Thanks for the reply.
My engine (360) came from a '74 F150, and the flywheel (390) came from a '73 F350.
I will forge ahead and post the results, along with any oddities I run across doing this swap into my '78.
Again, thanks for all the help and info.
Mike

If the person doing the balancing wasn't brite they sure would swear at you when they first spin it up and the crank jumps out of the v-blocks!

That aside, yes, it's been done before (by me!). I had a 289 I just rebuilt for another project and had my 302 in my '82 LTD wagon go out. I had a normal 289 auto flexplate. I wanted to hook it up to the tranny in the LTD and the flexplate was the wrong bolt pattern (wanted to say "pinout") and diameter. The flexplate from the 302 (externally balanced) had this big ugly weight on it.

The 289 had already been balanced with the 289 flexplate. I talked my machinist (who was also a heavy tooling salesman) into taking another 289 crank I had, and balance it with the 289 flexplate (again). Then, put the 302 flexplate on it and drill out the weight until it was balanced. I then used the resulting 302 flexplate on the 289 and the balance was perfect!

Sorry about the small-block Ford reference
