This took care of the cluncking. I did not have a foot pound wrench so i will be going back and torquing it tomorrow to 87lbs.
Thanks

So you are saying your clunk is gone now? I really haven't read of anyone actually replacing the mounts and giving the results, so this is good news. It drives me crazy hearing the clunking, but I have it on both sides. It's nice to know that there might be light at the end of the tunnel!
Ive fixed a couple of these mounts by grinding about 3/16 to 1/4 off of the steel tube that runs down thru the bushing (once you knock the bottom bushing off, the tube is the only thing exposed on the bottom)
I think the cause of the popping is the upper steel tube rubbing on the lower steel tube (look at it and Im sure you will see some spots where they have been rubbing together)
Ive done this on both my 04 F250 and my 00 Ex and presto no more wife telling me "somethings coming apart under my feet"
Sorry- Longjohn I didnt take any pics -- its a fairly straight forward project -- once you pull the carpet back a ways you will see the rubber plug, pull it out and you will see the body bolt ---- zip it out with an Impact gun..... Now once the bolt is out thread it back in by hand about a half inch and tapp on the top of it this will seperate the top rubber from the bottom rubber.... You then can spin the bottom rubber off the bolt and you will see the tube that runs down the center of the mount there should be some bright spots where the upper and lower tubes have been rubbing together....I think this happens when the rubber settles a bit..
So now laying on your creeper you will see the tube running down from the top mount -- grab the ginder and grind off about 1/4 inch from the bottom of that tube (I sprayed some lube on mine at this point) then assemble....
I did this to my 04 F250 a couple of years ago and the Ex about three months ago and still no popping from either one!!!!
blueovalyj-
I am starting this procedure now-thanks for the write up.
I add some write up-
First pull the little fastener on the kick panel by the parking brake, then pull the panel towards the rear.
Pry up the scuff plate evenly-don't pry up at the corner and pull-use two hands along its length so that you don't stress crack the areas around the mounting tabs.
Looks like blue threadlock on the threads, definately wouldn't have gotten the bolt off easily by hand (Anyone doing this it's a 15/16ths socket, and you will need a short 3" extension on a 1/2 impact gun.)
Is there a discounted site out there on Al Gore's invention that you guys buy your OEM parts from or do you just go to your local Ford dealership? I couldn't find anything on LMC. Thanks.
