Not a Happy Camper

Good news......the Ex has made it almost 400 miles today.

Bad News........ the hand calculated mileage was 16.4 not towing. Also my new oil cooler ( less than 1500 miles) seems to not be working great. My Scangauge just got set up to read EOT. Oil and coolant were averaging 11* difference. Never got better than 8* once warmed up and got as high as 13*.

I did an EGR delete and installed a coolant filter right after a coolant flush with VC9. 1500 miles ago.

Rebuilding the oil cooler before the coolant system is flushed is probably counter productive... You probably clogged the new oil cooler with the grud that the coolant flush cleaned out.

It probably makes sense to flush the coolant system install a by-pass coolant filter and then rebuilt the oil cooler a few thousand miles later... Any thoughts?

As long as it is 15* or less it is functioning properly. If it is 15* it dosent mean there is a issue or a problem just functioning properly

Man, if I got 16.4 mpg I'd be happy as a pig in poo. I guess I could hit that if I removed the lift and tires, but I don't see that happening. I've gotten @ 14ish and with an 8700 lb truck I'm ok with that.

Thanks for the replies. Today after 300 miles it stayed at about 8* difference. I have no EGR cooler now to trash, so either way I am NOT tearing back into her.

Still not hip on the mileage, but such is life I figure.

16.4 would make me happy also have got 17 but not the norm, 15.5 to 16.5 is definately good to me. Pulling 17.000 lb 5th wheel get 11 to 12 at the best not pulling mtns just rolling plains here in OK.

Even a 10 mph wind makes a big difference in mpg's.

What do you think is good mpg for a 8000#+ non aerodynamic vehicle that is the size of a fullsize van? Heck in all reality a van would be lighter.

I may be different. I bought a near 4ton truck. Im just glad it will move out oif its own way.
I knew what the window sticker claimed milage is on the truck when it was bought new. Now doubt Im way over that number.

I'm sorry guys I'm just really getting sick of the I get xx mpg and everyone else gets 20-25mpg gripes. I personally think 15-16 is pretty respectable. I can understand the complaints of 10 or less.
