I have an '83 F100 with a 302 carb motor. It starts & runs fine when cold, but if I shut it off and try to restart after it has been running for a while, it won't start. Sometimes it will just stall when idling.
It has a new fuel tank, and fuel filter, also new plugs. The carb is an Autolite/Motorcraft 2150. This truck has been sitting a while, and I just put a new tranny into it. The motor runs good.
I think that the float may be fuel saturated and not closing the needle valve completely, or the needle valve is gummed up.
I can buy a rebuild kit, but the float doesn't come in the kit. The float can be purchased seperately.
Can I replace the float without removing or rebuilding the carb?
Yes you can. There is just a little clip that hooks around the pivot shaft on the float and is latched on to the side of the needle. Take the top off the carb and IIRC just pop it off the side of the needle and the float will come right off.
