Hi, guys I have a 1990 Ford Bronco with a 6" lift. I notice that the vent hoses for my front and rear axles don't extend that high up at all. My question is is it ok to extend those hoses up into the engine compartment so they don't suck in water when mud bogging. Also extend the rear axle vent hose higher up under the body.
I would really appreciate any help from anyone whose done this, Also where would you get the hoses from?
definitely a good idea. i just used regular vacuum line and replaced the entire short original ones with really long ones. the vacuum line seemed stiff enough so it wouldn't kink around corners. make sure to leave slack in the hose for axle drop, and at the end put a small inline filter to keep out bugs and dirt. also it's good to point the opening down to keep out dripping water.
Hi-
Get the hoses from Discount or anywhere. Use rubber 5/16 or 3/8, vacuum or fuel line, doesnt' really matter. Use worm type hose clamps so they stay there if they lightly get snagged. Don't forget the transfer case and the transmission. If you get under there you'll find them. Put them at least as high as your air intake setup. A lawn mower fuel filter works nice on the ends, but arguably not neccessary.
Make sure your brake line hoses (front and rear) have enough slack as well as the vent tube hoses.
On my trucks, I like to run the vent hose up to the rear cross member, position it on the back so it points down in a U shape. Sticking a vent on is great as long as you maintain it.
If you do a lot of mud, you might be better venting it into the tailgate. Been a while since i owned a full sized Bronco, but, you should be able to run a vent into the bottom of the tailgate on the driver's side.
Since your axel moves and whatever you tie your vent hose to doesn’t especially with the extra articulation the lift adds you can use some of that coil hose for an air compressor. I’ve only seen it in yellow but if it matches your truck it looks pretty cool and wroks well.
