Suspension types

Well i was thinking, how do you detirmine if a suspension set up is 4link and 5 link. Where does the link number come from. Sorry for the newbie question but an inquiring mind must know.

Suspension types

The number of links refers to the ideal geometric model used to design the suspension system - not from the actual number of links you see in production. Of course, that makes it really hard to describe the systems in terms of what to look for, but I can tell you that '98 Dodge fullsize 4WD pickups have a leading-arm 4-link front suspension and Land Rover Discovery IIs, Expeditions, & Crown Vics with coils have 4-link trailing-arm rear suspension. A double A-arm (common front suspension) is also a 4-link, but they face the side. The TIB/TTB is a single arm for each side.
