High RPMs

Hello list,

Is the 2,000 - 2,500 rpm normal to notice any speed gains from a full stop? I just noticed this on my wife's 99 XLT and it just recently had a tune-up of oil, plugs, filter (air and oil). By speed gains I mean 40 mph? I know trucks are not high revving engines. Any thought on this?

I'm not sure what you're asking but I'll try to get this started.

2000-2500 RPM is not high RPM, not even for a diesel. I believe the 'Redline' for the 5.4L V-8 in my Expy is 5400 RPM (no mark on tachometer) but the rev limiter kicks in at about 5200 RPM.

I would say that 2000-2500 RPM is the range at which your auto trans should be shifting at under light load and moderate throttle, ie normal operating conditions and is nothing to worry about.

For referance my 99 EXPY 5.4L has 3.73 gears and at 70 MPH the motor is turning about 2100 RPM
