I'm looking for a live link for 31x10.5x15 Gateway (bias) Buckshot Mudders. I've found several dead ones so far. I ran these on a '78 Full Time 4wd Blazer back in the '80's and that monster was unstoppable, mud, snow, even ice. These are much more aggressive than the radial types including Maxxis.

the only size i think Gateway makes anymore in the mudder tire is 305-85-16. if you got a local Co-Op around there, you might want to see if they can get the Grip Spurs. tread is very similar and a very hard bias tire.
You're gonna have a really hard time finding the old school Gateway Buckshots, "OK4WD" was the last known supplier and now they too no longer have them, there may be old stock floating around out there some where if you look hard enough.
Back in the eighties there weren't nearly as many off road tires available as there are today. Tire technology has improved dramatically.

I think you will be able to find some much better tires today, in terms of traction, noise, longevity, etc.

Very well said. The private label tires....like maxxis mudders etc.....give modern mud tires a bad name. Premium tires, such as the Toyo M/T, are MILES ahead of (no pun intended) the old school tires. The new tires last longer, ride smoother, and and perfrom much better overall. I have Toyo M/T's on my 2005 F-150, 35's on 20's. 45,000 miles and 60% tread. I just bought some Firestone Destination M/T's for my 79 F-250, 315-75/16 (35x12.50-16). Still haven't mounted them yet. If they are anything like the Bridgestone Dueler M/T's I had on my Exploder, I will be extremely satisfied.
im running nitto mud grapplers on mine and i love them. i had some old school mud tires on her and my new nitto's stop a hole in them. i've been places i never thought possible with them. now im not saying they are the best tires ever made. they are a bit noisy on the highway, but boy do they have traction.
Hmmm , must've been how my Blazer was set up, the only trouble I ever had with those were a lil wandering on the freeway. Mind you that was back when I was in the service and kind of had a fatalistic attitude roaring home on leave, I-5 at 80+ back when the speed limit was newly 55.
On several ski trips to Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachellor here in Oregon, when the Troopers closed the roads in the winter, they'd take one look at my full time 4wd and those bias Buckshots and would always say "YOU can go"

I've never ridden on one. However, I've driven next to them on the highway. I had to turn MY radio up!! LOL.
surprised to hear a ringing endorsement for the toyo's, my brother ran them on his diesel and they were total pieces of **** that never balanced out ride, were louder than ****, didn't get any better traction than the BFG all terrains that replaced them, and wore out fast. 16k miles I believe.
Well, I have NEVER put a wheel weight on mine. Tires are STILL in perfect balance. After I mounted them, I spun one. It was less than an ounce out......which is NOT noticeable on a tire so large and heavy. So I said forget it, and threw them on with now weights. Nearly 50,000 miles later and still no vibration. Mine were nearly silent. I rotated them ever 10k. But the last time, I let them go 20k and the front two started making a little noise. Keep in mind I tow alot also. With an empty trailer, I'm grossing 9500 pounds......loaded, about 15,000. Stopping that much weight is rough on the front tires. If you measured the tread depth, they would probably measure around 70%. If I ran them until they were nearly bald, I could probably get 100,000 out of them. However, when they get less than 50% tread, they aren't very good for mud tires anymore. I'll probably replace them within another 25,000 miles.
I had another set on my 99 F-150. Size 35x12.50-18. I was very satisfied with them as well. But I didn't get to put may miles on them. I had issues with the truck and quit driving it a few years ago.
Yeah his are the toyo rough country MT"s, I think, 16" wheel size, and 35's. He tows a fifth wheel trailer as well but he has an exhaust compression brake. I'm not gonna lie, he is hard on ****, but the all terrains are holding up a lot better than the toyos did, and they ride so much nicer. between the stacks and the toyos I hated riding in there before. Its not so bad now (and the twin tubos quieted down the stacks a good bit)
Well, they are actually called Open Country....I'm I guess we're talking about the same tire?? I've never known anyone to get less than 50,000 out of them. Most everyone I've talked to got about 80,000 out of them.....if they ran them till they were nearly bald.
