I have searched through all the heater core threads... i had one question.. does anyone have a exploded view of the dash? So i can see exactly where all the screws/bolts are... its going to be 20 degrees out and this truck does not fit in my garage... So i wanna zip right through this job... any comments or links would help... thanks!!
Lifted,I just did the core on my 79.I don't have any pics, but I can give you a good idea of what to look for.First of all, drop your glove box so you can get in a tight spot later.Remove the screw holding the temp selector cable and then using the hole created earlier use a right angle phillips to remove the screw holding the cable for floor or defrost.I found it easier to remove the plastic piece where the vent for outside air comes in,5 screws.Remove hoses from core in engine compartment after draining coolant,be sure to save the little foam gaskets. You will see two nuts holding the blower motor, remove these, then look on the firewall behind the air cleaner and you will find the third nut to remove. You will have to remove two other screws and they are located on the whole housing, there will be wires hooked there and this is your motor resistor.Carefully jockey the whole housing out from under dash, take unit into your garage to replce core.Mine was held in by some kind of tar substance and it took a long screwdriver to release it all so core would come out.Good luck.John
You also have to loosen or remove the bottom right hand nut that fastens the dash to the kick panel.
You will need to pull out the dash a little to remove the heater box.
