Engine Removal
I just had the bed plate gasket replaced in my 2005 F350 for the second time...the first time was at 20,000 miles and this time at 60,000 miles. What I find interesting is the tech who did the first repair removed the cab, but the one who did it this time did not. I asked the second tech about it and he said he finds it unnecessary to remove the cab.
It's obviously a matter of personal preference on the part of each tech, but I would think one method would be the recognized best way to remove the engine.

Removing the cab isn't necessary or required...removing the engine however, is.
You have to remove the oil pan, upper oil pan, and there you'll see the bedplate. It's a simple procedure to do once the engine is out and apart.

well I hate to say it but there are a few people doing bedplates in frame. not me not gonna happen. I would rather do what I was paid for and fix it hopefully once.

I had the engine out of my truck a month ago. I took it out the front after stripping everything from the front bumper back to the serpentine belt. Unbolted the trans from its mounts, removed the motor mounts and pulled it right out. We did remove the oil pan and oil pickup after we got it up and forward a little for more clearance. Not as bad a job as I expected. I would do it that way again

My engine was pulled the First week of Feb.Bedplate and all lower block seals and gaskets.I have driven it 500+ miles.Only problem was a drip of coolant on the lower hose at the radiator,I tightended the clamp with a screwdriver,end of problem.I have not heard of any bedplate oil leak issues wit 2007 6.0s though. Front end was removed and engine pulled.My hat is off to the highly trained and certified diesel techs like Cheezit and the tech that did the work for me at Northside Ford trucks in Portland,Oregon.I know there is many of them out their,Just sometimes hard to find.These are truly the professional techs that make the wheels of this great country turn.
