well. more aviator problems, it appears that the Kansas Chapter window problems continue.
Saturday Julie called me and said the window went down, but wouldn't go back up, and it sounded like broken shards of glass when she hit the button.
She took it to the stealership, because I was busy, and they said, yep.. that window is broke, you will have to see the body shop to put in a new window.
Naturally she didn't have time or resources to just drop it off to the body shop at the time, so she brought it home.
I looked down the channel and saw that the window was at least mostly complete, so pulled the door apart..15 electrical connections later, and a few screws and I had the door cover off. I could see the window was fine. the noise they were hearing that sounded like little pieces of glass grinding was steal cables all wadded up on the electronic window/regulator system. the end of one of the cables came undone/broke, and without the tension, the cables wadded up in the pulley system. it was knarly..
turns out its a dealer only item according to all the parts stores, unless I want the passenger side, then I can get one off the shelf.(HUH?) seems like the driver side one would go out more often then the passenger, but maybe not?
275.00 for the part. wish she would have broken the window instead.
we take it back in to have them fix the brakes which quit working again, fix the backup sensor that has never worked since we owned it, and fix the window.
Can you find the regulator/cable assembly at a salvage yard for cheap? Might save a couple of hundred. Of course then you need to install. Not that hard, but can be a pain in the rear. I've done a couple of different ones.
You are probably right Del, however, they only made the Aviator for 2 years in our body style, so I am guessing I would spend about as much in shipping, or traveling to get one, as I will for a new one. Then I may still end up with a bad one, or one with teh same problems ours has.
I am going by today to pick up the regulator from the stealership, I am going to try to install it myself tonight, if not, we still have an appointment to fix the ABS and the backup sensors, I will just have them install the regulator as well.
