Has anyone bought a catback exhaust system from ebay? i see there are alot of different exhaust brands on there and i was considering buying one being they are alot cheaper then buying one threw a regular automotive store, so who out here is using one on there truck and how do they sound. i was considering a magnaflow for my 2001 f250 5.4L. i know magnaflow doesn't make a catback for the 5.4 but the systems on ebay arent catback systems, they are selling you the muffler and prebent pipes to fit the trucks. so how are they guys how do they hold up and how do they sound
.... the systems on ebay arent catback systems, they are selling you the muffler and prebent pipes to fit the trucks....
Isn't that a cat back system, a muffler and the pipes from the cat back?
If all you're after is an agressive sound, then just replace your muffler. If you also want some preformance gain, then also replace the restrictive Y-pipe used on the 2V Triton engines.
I already got the ebay Y-pipe but befor i put that on i wanna change the whole exhaust out and install dual pipes out the back. it seems that most ebay exhaust systems are not out of the box cat back systems. they are selling you the muffler and the tail pipes .. yes u can say that if u get a muffler and tail pipes that its a catback system but the pipes you are getting from ebay are not te same as if you were to buy a cat back system from a performance center. you have to read befor you buy them some are 2 1/2" mandrel bent pipes and some are 2 1/4 non mandrel.
has anybody used them from ebay and if so how do you like them. i hate to try to save a few bucks and not get what i am expecting to get
Well, many of those pre-bent pipes require that you have welding equipment, and you may have to weld hangers and flanges on yourself. Some of the pre-bent pipes are one-size fits all types intended for muffler shop use.
Many of the sellers on ebay may have good feedback, but it is difficult to tell which ones really are legitimate. If the feedback is left promptly after the customers receive the product, it will not reflect any issues that might happen down the road. Also many of the sellers are selling products below the MASP, which means that they will be here today and gone tomorrow. You can get a one time sweet deal. You just have to be careful who you buy from.
My general opinion is that you get what you pay for. eBay is a great setup and you can find great deals. Just make sure you know what you want so there are no surprises.
If you do not have welding experience, and you want to install yourself, you really should get a complete bolt on kit.
If you do get a separate muffler and tailpipe, you are not bound to Magnaflow. There are better mufflers out there, and better values. I recommend Wickedflow. Those are available on eBay and they are a better muffler all the way around.
