Hey guys, I don't have much time to search right now, but I was wondering if anybody has had a problem with their HVAC system not wanting to switch from hot to cold or anything in between? Everything else in the HVAC seems to work, and sometimes it will change temp right away, other times it will take several minutes (if it changes at all). If anyone knows of a thread in here or has had issues with it, please let me know.
99 F250 SD, 7.3 Powerstroke, 4x4, ex. cab, auto, a/c...about all the important info I can think of.
Im guessing your probably gonna need to have your system recharged. being a 99 do you know the last time the A/C system was serviced. Refrigerant needs to be evacuated and recycled every once in a while. It mixes with the oil in the compressor and impurities and you get acidic build up.
When you want cold, is your ac compressor clutch engaging? If yes, get your pressures checked and check to see if you blend air door is working properly. The blend air door motors do not usually fail, the coupler does. If no, check base pressure to see if there is enough freon to command clutch engagement. If there is, I have seen the air gap in the clutches increase due to wear.
I'm not using the a/c (or not trying), just trying to get cool inside air to blow so I don't have to put the window down. I'm leaning toward the blender door motor, but I was wondering if anybody else had had this issue. I was doing some dinking around and when I move the temp control, the blender door shaft does NOT turn. I don't hear any noise coming from the motor, and it has quit changing temperature entirely, so that's why I'm leaning toward that. I'm to the point where I think it's either the blender door motor or the dash controls.
You can take the motor out and pop the cover off. Then activate your controls and see if it moves. I think when you pop the cover off, you will probably see that the worm drive gear is stripped, if my memory isn't acting up.
Okay, that's what I was looking for. I take it there's really no way to fix it other than to replace the motor? Guess I'll be dropping the $36 on one then - no point buying one from a yard when they're that cheap.
