That is a real nice radio. I have seen those LTD's with a little kicker key 30 and swing 350. The radio tunes real well with a Wilson 1000 mounted dead center of cab roof.

Whitey was talking about the power in amps. A kicker is a amp for more power. Kinda like for a stereo. Whitey can prolly explain it alil better. That's a primative discription at best
Nice CB, my grandpa had one of those, I put it in my truck back in high school. The new thing then was those lamps inside your house that you touched to turn on, anyway, damn CB had so much power you could drive by peoples houses and key the mike a few times and turn those lamps on. Cant tell you how many beers and mic clicks amused most of my friends on friday nights in a town of 1200 people, haha!!
Speaking of CB's, besides asking for driving info, crash info, helping out a fellow truck driver with some local information, my radio has never been so important than this last major snow-blizzard storm we got up here 2 weeks ago, it was horendous. On my way home, cars were in the ditches, snowdrifts making roads impassable, I was literally stuck at this convienance store because roads were shut down, 60 mph winds with snow. I was waiting for some plows to come thru so I could continue because even with my truck in 4x4, it was nuts. I ended up waiting for 2 hours and the wind subsided and end up taking the turnpike at my amazement, was just wet, they salted the heck out of it. So, for those 2 hours I warned other drivers of the closed roads, took in some info on what roads were flowing then to find out the turnpike was a go, no big truck though, I rolled on home. They can be a life saver sometimes. Sorry Joe, just had to tell..
CB's are a great tool when traveling. Them damn truckers look out for each other and call out all the hazards ahead. All you have to do is pay attention to where you are and you will know what's up.
*But, when close to big truck stops and you have a little one in the cab, turn it down cause you never know what you will hear.
You can get a little box that you feed with the output of your LTD, and it "kicks" up the power a bit. The clarity of your signal comes from tuning the largest gap as possible between dead (silent) key and max output when speaking, without clipping the top off. Clipping is when you overdrive the output transistors and they just clip the top of your sign wave off and distortion of your voice occurs. So people will speak in terms of key up wattage and total wattage, like key 30 and swing up to 350. I have seen base stations that key 4 and swing 1500. On a meter it looks very impressive. When they speak everyone listens. No one can key over them. A Wilson 1000 will handle a very large output and allow you to set you SWR's as close to a 1 as possible (when mounted properly), giving your radio excellent receiving or "ears."
CB's are excellent tools, and real fun! That LTD of yours is an excellent unit.
