I've done a search (and a lot of lurking), but I'm still in the noob phase.
I recently purchased a 2000 PSD, and I am wondering if it is even possible to install a wired keypad. (I've seen the wireless one, and I'm not thrilled).
Is the current GEM even capable of this? Is there an updated GEM for this module that is capable (I know it would need to be programmed by the stealer) ?
Btw, the truck came with a lariat package and it does have keyless entry. (Current GEM module is has a "G" on it if that helps)
Welcome to FTE. What exactly do you have against the wireless ones? I got a wireless keypad from Ed, (one of our Ford dealer site sponsors) that comes from Ford, and looks and operates exactly like any other Ford keypad, except for the wires.
Since the Ford wireless one is so much easier, I'm not sure anyone has tried to drill a hole and wire one in. Maybe we can get Ed to shed some light on this tomorrow if no one has better ideas.

Thanks for the welcome. I would like to be able to unlock the doors while the truck is running. It's pretty rural out here, but not so rural that I can leave the truck out of site...Just more of a convenience for when I'm only going to be out of site of the truck for a few minutes.
I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, but turning a wrench doesn't scare me, and I've got a good background in wiring and reading diagrams.

Well there is that little issue with the wireless keypad. My wife asked if it worked like that. I said, I don't know, I don't see why it wouldn't. I got a phone call a few days later. Something about went to fill up, left the truck running, came back out, then a bunch of . Boy was I glad I was 50 miles away and the kid was at home to run the spare key to the gas station.
I'll send a message to Ed and see what info he can provide tomorrow when he's back at work. Don't forget to check with Ed on pricing. He is a Ford dealer that offers a pretty good discount on parts.

I cannot believe you still get yourself in a pickle all the time with her..
NO PROBLEM, I'll hook you up with a keyless entry kit maybe even a remote start to boot as long as you have power locks thats the best way to go. I'm not sure you can hard wire in the keyless entry pad. I might have sold one a few years ago but I'm not sure how the job turned out to be honest.. lets start with a vin number and let me doing a little digging.
visit my web site www.partsguyed.com and use the contact us link and send me some info and the vin and lets see what I can do.

I've got the same keypad on my truck and that is good to know that it won't work while the truck is running. I have never tried it, and now I never will. I find that I don't use the keypad much anyway. When I first got it I thought that I would use it all the time, but I don't.
maybe I have the odd one out, but I had a wireless keypad on one of my other trucks and it programs like a remote and works with the truck on. If your keyless remote works with the truck on, then the wireless should or at least mine does. Can you remotely unlock the truck with the truck on and running?
The 2002 & up trucks it works on. The 2001 & below it won't. That's one of the nice things about the 2002+. The key fob works whether the truck is running or not. I use that feature all the time. In the earlier trucks, it won't let you lock it with the key in it running.

Thanks Joe. That makes sense. I told her I though it would work because my key fob works the locks while the engine is running (on my 02). It didn't seem to work too well on her 01.
Would a turbo timer be a better option?
I dont know about the stand alone units, but on my viper alarm, I use the turbo timer for this all the time.
Turn the timer on,, pull the keys, lock the truck, do what I need to (within the 8 minutes that it will run), hop back in turn the key again and go.
Hmmm... I might have to look in to this once I'm back out west.... punching in a code on the door would be much nicer than carrying a key around while 'boarding.
Question: will the keypad work with an aftermarket alarm? I have a Viper... something-or-other... any ideas? I'm guessing "sure if you throw enough money at it" but I like cheap.
Do you still have your factory key fob, Brendan? If so, just try it and if it works with your Viper the keypad will too. Its basically a mounted key fob with a code to protect it. I got mine on ebay about 6 months ago for dirt cheap. My uncle wanted one for his truck and I emailed the guy and he said he sold all 13 of his in less than 2 days. I've already used mine 1 time for a lockout and more than 15x because I forgot my keys in the house. It literally takes more time to clean/apply the pad than it does to program it too.
