3 Speed Manual Transmission Problem.
I have a 1965 F100 with a 240 and a 3 speed manual trans. The trans leaks like crazy from the rear seal where the drive shaft goes in.
Is that seal separate from the bearing or is it one piece bearing and seal? If it is separate I would think I should also change the bearing as well (along with the u-Joints since I have to take the drive shaft off anyway).
How hard is the bearing and or seal to replace with the trans in the truck. Would I use a piece of PVC pipe and the outer bearing race to tap in place?
Any tips are GREATLY appreciated!

What weight gear oil do you recommend for this 3 speed? THANKS AGAIN I really appreciate your insight.

The bushing shouldent need replacing unless you have a ton of slop in your tailshaft. I have seen that being a problom but only once, and that was cause the dink drove with a bent driveshaft daily for two years. The seals I have changed I have installed with nothing more than a ball peen and a punch if it is recessed. That is the way my dad did it and in 10 years I have ruined one seal. Rub a bit of permatex around the outside of the seal before installing. It will help lubricate it and seal up any minor dings.
ND is right, you can buy this stuff at any decent parts store for a lot less.
