Dme light questions

Hi,

I n\just recently purchased an 00 F-350 CC 4x4 XL that was an oilfield pickup. Ithought my domelights (standard XL, no map lights, nothing) or cargo lights didn't work & that's why they added one between the first dome & the windshield, but I placed bulbs in them & they work. Why would they do that & why would my lights only come on when I open the driver's side front & passenger side rear doors & not the other

Maybe they did it because the lights weren't coming on with the door switches? As for the map lights, they have a separate hot wire in the dome light that feeds them. The screws that hold up the lights act as the conductors. Maybe you're lucky and the wire is there already. Pull the light down and check it out.

thanx, would the reason the dome light/cargo lights only working when those two doors are open be switches out of the other 2 doors?

It could be stuck switches. Try spraying some wd-40 into the switch, then open and close the door a few times. These switches are known to stick.

Open the door and look for the little black plastic thing that is attached to the cab and goes into the door. The switch is in there.

Mine has both. I pulled the passenger door part & there was a sensor that they had taped to the door. I pulled the driver's door panel apart to see how it goes together right. There is a clip on the lath inside of the door that it is supposed to clip on to. I just cut the wires & wired them together to create a temporary closed circuit until I get a chance to go to a u pull it savage yard & get the parts. Now my @#$^ dome light stays on for about 10 or 15 minutes even when the truck is running with the doors closed. Any ideas short of removing all the bulbs again for a temporary fix?

Have you tried undoing the wires you put together? Its basically saying the door is open all the time.

My 2001 was and oil field truck as well. When I got it, the dome light and cargo light didn't work either. I found numerous problems, first problem being that the Door Ajar light was burnt out on the dash, once I fixed that, the Door Ajar light stayed on when the doors were closed. The dome light and cargo light bulbs had been removed, replaced them the lights stayed on. I then pulled the door panels and attacked the door switches, I tried the WD40 on the latches and it didn't work. What I found was that the switches were so caked up with red dirt and crud that they were stuck in the open position, I replaced them with some units from O'rielly and all is good now. I would just replace the switches, IIRC they were around 35.00 ea.

soes anybody have an owners maunual for a 2000 Super Duty? If so would they mind writing down what fuses & relays do what & where they are? I have the 2 dome light wires on each door wired into themselves, tet the lights stay on & the chime keeps going when the key is in the off postion, even with the doors closed. Am I missing something here??? I never shoulda messed with it.............

just bought some dome lights with map lights from the junk yard. The truck only has 2 wires, but I only want the map lights anyways...... Truck has black with a blue stripe & green with a yellow stripe. New lights have solid black, green with a red strip, & black with a blue stripe. What wires go to what wires if I only want map lights?

One of the wires should be hot at all times. Thats the one you want to use for the map lights.
