Speedometer not working, check engine light on.

Jus lookin at buying a 99 f-150xl, The engine light is on and speedometer doesnt work. How do i test if its the Vehicle speed sensor? where is it located? and would that explain why the check engine light is on?

You can take it to autozone and have them pull the code with a scanner. Write down the code and post it here.

My old 99 Ranger had the same symptoms. AutoZone will be able to tell you. Mine was the VSS it cost $12 for the part and it was on top of the rear axle. It took five minutes to replace.
