Motor dumping coolant while running, please help diagnose
2001 F150 Supercrew Lariat 4x4, 5.4, auto, 88k miles. Relatively stock except for Magnaflow exhaust and Air Raid intake. No codes, no loss of drivability, truck has begun dumping coolant while running. Tracked it down to a housing on the left (passenger) front of motor just forward of the fuel rail. It looks almost like the thermostat housing, but it's not.
When pressurized, coolant is running out of the rear of this housing. See the below photo. The area in question is the rear of the silver housing that has a heater hose running from the top and is just below the yellow thing on the fuel rail. Has three visible bolts (one bolt head and two bolt shafts).
As I said, the coolant is coming out of the backside of this housing, running down the block valley and down the bellhousing. Any idea what this housing is? Is there a gasket underneath? Any diagnosis of the problem? Thanks in advance.
You might want to go to NAPA(or another reputable parts place),and have them take a look to "ID" that housing.Get a gasket, and replace it.Shouldnt be expensive. There is also the possibility that the housing has a crack in it.
It is a problem area (your pic) that happens a lot .
I hate ta say it but I'm pretty sure you have to remove the hole intake manifold in order to get to the underside bolts.
If you had it to do over, would you do the repair yourself or pay to have it done? I'm assuming it would be a good time to do my plugs as well. Did you find a step-by-step anywhere or did you wing it? Thank you.
