is it worth it?

Been thinking this over for a long time, and thought what a better place to get some advice than here.

1999 f150 4.5 203,000 Kilometers on it.

Driver door at the bottom is rusting, door is still solid, but it is starting.

Rockers on the driver side and passenger are peeling, bare metal is showing, no rust.

few dings and dents (it is 11 years old)

Now ive been quoted so far to paint my truck the 2 front fenders (hit and run) and the rockers on the cab and box at 1000 bucks

OR

The whole thing for 2500

Im not sure what to do, I can barely afford to get it painted for 2500, and I wanna keep this truck till it dies.
Is it worth to spend 2500 to get the whole thing painted and keep it for another 4-5 years, or should i try to sell it and use the 2500 plus what i sold it for, for a newer truck.

I dont know what do any thoughts on the matter maybe?

Here's my take on it,

Painting over rust is money down the drain. Get it fixed and put that money to good use, or replace the fenders and doors. But throwing paint on rust just rusts out the paint that sits on it, causing flakes.

If you wanted to, I'd sell, and put the 2500 on top of that towards a newer/different truck.

$2500 is really not bad at all. Look into the price of everything ytou need to do the job yourself any you will be close to that number. I am a bodyman And my dad owns a bodyshop so yes i know the prices on everything. As an Ontario guy i hope like crazy you know the advantages of getting the truck oiled every two years and actually get it done. As Mawk said make sure you get the rust taken care of and get new metal put on or you will be regretting it. My dads shop is in Chatham area, if your near I may be able to help you get a deal....and hopefully me some work(freekin economy) hope i helped.

im sorry ive worded some of that wrong.

The rust on the door is minimal at best, just needs a lil sand blasting, and the rockers are peeling, there isnt any rust yet, but it will all be sand blasted by this guy who i know who does good work.

And i do know of the oil sprays, but i think the previous owner slacked off a couple of years which would explain the peeling paint and rust spot on the door.

and im up in Sudbury lil far to go for a paint job lol

thanks for all your info guys

$2500 sounds like it isn't going to be a very good paint job, no body work just shooting paint over the top of what ii already there with very minimal prep.

The auto industry uses our technology for paint durability measurements (film thickness).

We have issued two press releases and have contacted Ford Senior Management on the
impact of outsourcing paint applications process and quality control to the Paint Suppliers.

Press Release 1
New Books Reveal Vehicle Paint Quality Flaws Associated with Outsourcing

Press Release 2
Billions Discovered for Recovery by Automakers
<!-- m -->http://www.mmdnewswire.com/auto-industry-6716.html<!-- m -->

We have released two books -
Basic Guide - For the Consumer
Technical Guide - For The Automaker and Auto Dealer

"MAKING IT RIGHT'
Why your Car Payments
are lasting longer than your
FACTORY PAINT JOB

We do have research data on the F150 from the factory which shows a good number were
released to the automaker, auto dealer and consumer below Ford's paint thickness
specifications.

Low film thickness results in paint peeling, stone chipping and body rusting.

Paint applied too thick will crack.

The majority of F150s were released below the required thickness specification.

We are advocating a "Truth in Finish Disclosure" to protect automakers, auto dealers
and consumers from receiving paint defects at the time of purchase.

If you bought the F150 directly from the dealer, you may want to advise your auto dealer
on the book and do a search inside the book on either Amazon or our website for additional information.

Good Luck
