For the past four years I have been planning to rebuild the engine in my son's F-250. He thought it was a 390 but I have determined that it is a 360. I wish to build an engine with good torque and have planned to build a 410 seeing as it is a four square engine and is known for producing good torque. I have located two such engines but the one owner is taking forever to get it out of the vehicle, giving up on that one. The second on will be available after the spring thaw. I plan on putting an EFI system on this engine and my question is will I need to develop some type of crank position sensor for the EEC to work properly? Are there any other hurtles to be considered as well? I plan on using it as a daily driver when finished and I want it to be dependable.
I have looked at what you mention and find them out of my league. I have located a 460 with EFI and can pick it up for $150.00 and that gives me everything but the fuel pump. I can locate a manifold and have the injector bungs installed reasonably and the fuel tank and fuel pump can be obtained as well. The question still remains is there a need for and a way to establish a crankshaft position sensor for the system to work?
I desire to use a mass air flow system because it is a self learning system over the speed density systems whish most of the after market firms produce. Thanks for the input.
I am not up on the new motors but an all EFI system offers a lot of good things. You can keep a check on places like Welcome - Salvage Direct for donors.
I have a yard that I go to in central Minn. to get my parts from and all I am waiting for is the north country to thaw out. When the snow is gone I will go and round up the engine and the EFI system and proceed with the project. I tried the 48-60 site earlier and it was suggested that I try this one for the answers I was looking for. I guess I'm still looking. Will call FAST tomorrow and see what they have to say. With a little enginuity I think I have a solution but need to find out if I'm headed in the right direction. Thanks for trying.
