Remote keyless entry
1992 Ford F250 7.3
I got a remote keyless entry as a gift 3 yrs ago and didnt install it cause it looked like a pain. I finally decided to try. As i read the instructions I found out that there were differne t was to hook it up. It depended on the type of factory installed electric door locks I have. So I checked my Haynes book. No help. I then called auto parts (plural) stores and NOBODY knew what type or how to find out except call the dealership. I then called the Ford dealership and they had absolutely no idea. They told me they just enter the vin on there computers and it orders their part so they dont have to do anything. I also contacted the manufactorer of the system and they had no idea either. Can anyone please help. TY

yeah the instructions are **** poor!
once i ditched those, ans used my own mind on what needed to be done,it took me literally seconds to figure it out.
its WAY easier than the instructions say.
first.the basics.
what you want to do,is remove the screw holding the power window/door (un)lock control.
your going to be placing the transmitter(or what ever its called.you know, the little box that you wire in,and receivers the signal.i guess it would be called a "receiver" then.anyway lol.) now, just grab your tester and find the ground/always hot wires.
next, you will need to find the wires that run to your locks from the switch.this is easy as well.
you have the negative ground door lock system ok.this info alone will help you get started.
hang tight,im going to see if i can snap a pic for ya.

then when your done.everything tucks in underneath nice and neat.
some of those are for the parking light confirmation, which you may or not use.
if you do,then you will need to run a couple wires up into the light switch.which means you need the relay, and remove the dash, and fish wires up through and into the door.kinda a pain for that part.
but you can see the hot and ground are down on the bottom in those pics.so start testing there.i can't remember which is hot and which was ground.
the bottom one thats all black is think was ground, and the black one,you see on the outside was the hot,the one with the white stripe.test it though,as it's been awhile.

Ty that helps alot. The model I have is cheap butits a audiovox AA925. and its asks what type of locks system i have and gives me the following choices and I have no idea but my guess from what yo told me is number 1.
1. 3 wire ground switched signal step door locks.
2. 3 wire ground switched 2 step door locks
3. 3 wire postive switched door locks
4. 3 wire positive switched 2 step door locks
5. resistive curcuits, as we 4 wire polarity reversal and 5 wire alternating 12door lock contols

its #3. 3 wire postive switched door locks (though,i thought it was just 2 wires.)
i worded that incorrectly.my bad!
your door locks in words are operated by a standard negative and positive switch system.
the grounds are NOT switched or anything.
sorry for my poor choice of wording above.
there is only one ground.the rest of your wiring will be dealing with the switches.
but ground goes to ground, and hot to hot.
p.s. dang! you beat me by 10$!
i didn't see this one.i payed $40 for the bulldog one.
this one looks pretty much the same idea.
as you get in there, using your instructions, and if you need help with any of the wires, just let me know, and i;l help ya find just what it/they are.

After a day of wiring the thing up. I got everything to work except the door locks. I called the manuf. of the keyless entry and found out actually a five wire. i never would of guessed that. So i had to go and buy 2 relays, not really sure how to hook them up. I asked the buy where i bought them and he wouldnt say. He just smiled and said we are here if you need us. It would be 75 buck I DONT THINK SO. Any ideas....lol

First off on the bottom of the relay there is 5 sets of numbers, one at each connection... 30, 85, 86, 87 and 87A. The 87A is the center one, you will not be using it. All the following connections are done under neath the drivers side door lock with the wires coming off the door lock switch. I suggest soldering wires to make better connections.
Your wireing colors should be the same as mine, if not you will have to probe with a test light. If I am correct about the colors being the same your connections are as follows.
Relay 1 - Unlock
30 - Connect to + connection - Black with white stripe on truck
85 - same as above, solder wires together & connect to the same source
86 - Unlock wire from keyless control box
87 - Unlock wire on truck - Pink wire with green stripe on truck
Relay 2 - Lock
30 - Connect to + connection - Black with white stripe on truck
85 - Same as above, solder wires together & connect to the same source
86 - Lock wire from keyless control box
87 - Lock wire on truck - Pink wire with yellow stripe on truck
Hope that helps.
