I am trying to put an aftermarket remote lock system in our 1995 crew cab. The instructions say if the system uses positive power then run hot wires from relays to the door lock switches. If it is a negative system then use the negative leads from the aftermarket controller to the switches.
The problem is when I use positive power to the switches it acts like a dead short and burns up the wires. When I send a ground signal it does nothing. When the system works by pushing the button it uses 12v positive but when I put 12v positive there all I get is buzzing actuator and smoke.
Surely someone has installed aftermarket keyless entry on a PSD.
Please help I have tried searching the forum but can't find my answer.
Might not work with the aftermarket. Hard to tell without seeing the instructions. Both sides of the motor(s) are at ground when switch is idle. Switching to lock/unlock applies voltage to the motor and reverses polarity depending on switch position.
If you have power locks then you might already have the key-less entry module under the dash. If so then you just need to get the transmitter and activate it.
