I agree that on the test they probably had very slow take offs but couldnt drive under the speed limit during the test. What impressed me the most was 1907 miles with an average of 28 mpg. It would be hard to average that, even with the slow acceleoration if it wasnt capable of doing it.
Don't worry, I'm sure they'll release some PCM updates about 6 months in that kills the mileage...
You know, I laughed when I read this, but you're probably right. Are the tests with a 4x4 or 4x2? I'm going to read the linked articles since I'm now pretty curious...
EDIT: Steve, I see your name at the bottom of those articles- you got to drive the truck I assume? Cool!
At 50mph in my 05 6.0 i get about 27-28 mpg according to my meter, so they tested the truck at the fasted speed possible with the lowest rpm's possible, at least thats my guess.
The addition of urea is only supposed to be worth 5% on the HD diesels. Assuming a very generous 20 mpg starting point the move to 2010 emission package should only get you up to 21. I know there were a lot of good improvements on this new engine, there are not that many mpg in the new design.
