As some of you know, I recently missed an opportunity on a 55 F100. So, my quest has begun looking at several other F100s but... I'm not sure on the differences between years yet. The 55ish body style seems to be my favorite. I know in 57, they changed and don't care for the 57 to newer ones much. But, what, before 55, other ones should I look at?
Pics of the front/side and back of said models would help. Don't really care about running gear since I'm gonna rape it with EFI/OD etc. anyways.
Also, will an EB (66-77) 9" work under one of these F100s? I'm not sure of the width of either the EB or the F100s but, the EB is narrow. Truck appears to be narrow. I happen to have a 72 EB getting retro-fitted with a Sterling 10.25 in the near future and can use the 9" on the F100 if it fits.
I realize these may be newB questions. But, only a newB on 50s model F100s. I promise.
Basically the 48-50 trucks are the best looking, the 51/52 trucks are aren't too bad if you don't mind a goofy buck toothed smile. The 53-55's are basically the same with minor grill changes through the years, The 56 is probably the most desireable and can be differentiated from the 53-55 trucks fairly easy. The 53-55 trucks have a sloped back windshield. Check out the doors on the truck in the above pic; see how the door glass is nice and square? on the 53-55 trucks the front of the doors angle back.
The 57-60 trucks, are another body style, popularly referred to as "refrigerators" around here for their somewhat boxy shape.

You can look up Ford trucks for many different years and get a feel for what you like and don't like
"Basically the 48-50 trucks are the best looking"-- Obviously, our friend Bobby is deep into the frosty beverages at this point... Aside from that glaring error, what he said is correct, 53-55's are called "slant cabs" due to the inclination of the windshield, where the 56 has a vertical "A" pillar and a corresponding different shaped door, grille and badging aside. I recall asking the same question as yours a few years ago, b4 I bought my truck My 55
Well I tried to post a pic of B/BFORDS beautiful 56 for comparison, but had no luck..
There is a Photo Gallery of Ford trucks right here on FTE. It shows all the years and should give you an idea about what you like.
Basically, 48 - 50 are almost identical, 51/52 are the same (small changes to trim and 52 had ohv 6)53-55 are the same (except 53 had a flathead V8) 56 is very similar to 53-55 but has the straingt windshield a post.
This '56 (Wayne's picture) appears to have a small 'overhang' from the cab roof over the windshield. Is this the only year for that overhang? It is almost like a windshield 'sun visor.' I have wondered about his feature of the '56 cab. For a short while my dad had a 53 - 56 F100 in the mid sixties as a 'back up' to our '66 F100 that was doing farm duty and also served as dad's daily driver to and from the mines. I think I remember a windshield 'overhang,' on the back up truck, so my guess is it was a '56 F-100.
