The 53-55 trucks have a sloped back windshield. Check out the doors on the truck in the above pic; see how the door glass is nice and square? on the 53-55 trucks the front of the doors angle back.

The 57-60 trucks, are another body style, popularly referred to as "refrigerators" around here for their somewhat boxy shape.

Here's a website with tons of pics;

You can look up Ford trucks for many different years and get a feel for what you like and don't like

Basically, 48 - 50 are almost identical, 51/52 are the same (small changes to trim and 52 had ohv 6)53-55 are the same (except 53 had a flathead V8) 56 is very similar to 53-55 but has the straingt windshield a post.

Here's the link otthe photo gallery:

If you see a body style you like come back and ask us about the stock drive train and possible conversions!
That link was worth it's weight in gold. I now see the difference and I agree. The 56 is the body I'd rather have. But, I'll settle for a 52-55 as well. 57 and newer... no thanks. 51 and older... they look cool but, not my style.

As far as drivetrain... I'm looking at a blown 460 dumping somewhere between 450/550 HP. I think that'll make it fast enough I'll enjoy driving it. But, not too fast I can't drive it on a daily basis. I can even achieve this with much smaller displacement. But, there's no bragging rights to saying... "I got a 302 or 5.0 in this". When people hear "It's a blown 460..." they'll cream their pants.

As far as tranny... still up in the air with it. I'd love to go old school gear banger 4 speed. But, a Tremec T6 would also be nice. Then... there's the whole.. I'd want to cruise it and let the throaty 460 rumble up and down ol route 66 at night. So, an auto w/ OD would also be nice.

The one part I'm not 100% sure on is the suspension modifications and conversions. I know I'll run a 9" with PDB. But, what front end should I use to hold the weight and provide stability and comfort? I want this truck to be a chin dragger (2" off pavement). I want it to feel stable around corners at reasonable speed so, very little body roll. But, have enough suspension to make it comfortable at highway speeds of 85-95 mph.

With that said and done... Headers/seats/wiring (imagine centec or painless makes a harness for this?) etc. Little things will need to be discussed. And places to purchase said parts like LMC or the like?

Guys... I'm not new to building things. So, don't be shy to give me any heads up on things. Just think this is the next builder I'm going for after I'm done with my 72 Bronco I'm building now. (5.8L/ZF/Atlas/HPD60/Sterling10.25)

OK, I am new to this forum but need help. I have a 52 F1 with a 215 motor. I put new wiring, volt reg, solenoid and got a new ignition switch. Has a 6 volt system. My problem is as follows:

The wiring harness has two wires for the push button. The ignition switch has a fourth center post. After connecting and rechecking all wiring, I turned the key and nothing. Motor wouldn't turn over. Eventually, I ran a wire from this center post to the little post on the solenoid and the motor will now turn over, but alas no spark from the coil. I can push the button or turn the motor over with the key, but no spark, which resulted in me putting on a new 6 volt coil just in case. I have no idea why there is no spark from the coil--------HELP

OLTWUK, welcome to FTE! You have hijacked a thread that is almost a year old. You need to go to the forums page where you click to get into the 48-60 ford trucks and look all the way to the right and click the post topic button to start a new thread. You will get alot more help and response.
