i put in a 6637 mod on sunday, and everything was fine. yesterday i was driving back to nh from mass and i was hearing this hissing sound when i let off the gas and the truck wasnt running as smooth as before. so i figured i didnt tighten the clamps enough. so i got home removed the clamps and retightened them. no hissing sound so i thought all was good. i drive about 2-3miles and it came back so i went home and left it for the night. i start it this morning and it wasnt there on a cold start. i let it warm up and drive it and now its back. im not really sure where exactly its coming from. any ideas suggestions help would be great.
Sounds like your Exhaust Back Pressure Valve. Was it cool or cold out today? Typically below I think 40 degrees. It's a valve in the turbo on the exhaust side that closes when the engine is cold to help it warm up. That is likely what you are hearing. It will do that at idle, and when just driving down the road. Under throttle it's suppose to open up like normal. If it stays closed under acceleration it will make the truck run rough. BTW, the 6637 mod makes it much easier to hear what the turbo is doing. The EBPV will continue to operate until the oil reaches 120 degrees I believe.
i changed my air filter for the first time since i got my truck...the one that came in it was pretty dirty. since then i hear more noise....kinda sshhh-sshhh-sshhh-sshhh while cruising. it's been warm enough here for the EBPV to not open. not sure if this is a normal sound or if something else is going on.

Are you still using the factory air box? If so, you need to check the inside of the tube going to the turbo. If you have dirt in there, you likely have an air leak. Many folks on here go with an aftermarket air intake for better filtration. The 6637 mod is the cheapest route. There are some noise issues with it for some folks. If you are towing it will created a drone when climbing hills that you won't necessarily notice when driving empty. AFE makes a good kit too. Stay away from K&N though. They don't do a good job of filtering from what I have read.
As for the sounds you are hearing, that sounds normal.

yep stil stock air box...when i changed the filter it did have some dust where it shouldnt have...i cleaned all of that and the oil from the CCV out. The turbo wheel looked great...no sings of wear. I am planning on changing out the intake...really like the cehap but effective nature of the 6637. maybe at next air filter change time i will do the swap.
