Thats a pretty broad question! What are you towing? An 8000# boat is much easier to tow than an 8000# travel trailer. You have frontal area to consider.
My next question is what kind of terrain are you towing over? Is it flat? Is it mountainous?
Either way, you will need a weight distribution hitch to prevent overloading the receiver on the truck. You will also need an electric brake controller. There is no way in hell that you will stop 8000# without brakes and in most states, if not all, require brakes on anything over 3000#.
With the 3.55 gear, you will downshift at every hill. You will need to lock out OD and let it run in 3rd. Let it rev..... it makes it's power in the upper RPM range.
My final question.... how far will you be towing? And how often? OK... that was 2 questions!
Just an example.... I have a 8'x16' flat bed that has weighed well over 9000#. I also have a 34' travel trailer that weighs 7800-8200# depending on how it's loaded. The 9000# flatbed tows much easier than the TT. There is no frontal area on the flatbed. Wind drag is a killer!
I as well tow a 30 ft toy hauler.. i have 373's but i'm running 35 inch tires. I also have many mods to the truck witch help as well.... Also i tow a 7x18 ft car trailer and there most drf. is a difference. My toy hauler with both lifted quads in it weighs in around 8200lbs.... my 06 dose it pretty good. If you do a search you can see pic's of my truck and hauler.
