I have a 99 f350 I cut the cat out and installed muffler delete pipe. Now getting 17 mpg with ac on on the hwy. I live south of Abq.,N.M. in the county no exhaust testing here. No real noise difference except at 20 mph go slow in town. Truck runs great!
i just installed a 4" afe turbo back and edge evolution cts with the dpf delete on my 08 it has never run so great now
If you go with a 4" system back to the muffler don't you somehow you have to reduce back down to 3 1/2" in order to maintain the dual stock tips? If so is there a reducer you can add in there or is there another way?
you dont have to go 4" they also make 3.5" dpf/cat delete pipe that will fit right into the stock exhaust system this way you can keep your stock tailpipe assembly and not have to reduce anything.....if you want to keep your stock tail pipe i would go with the 3.5" delete pipe.....a 4" would be a waste of money and usless seeing that you would be choking it back once you hit the stock tail pipe

Thanks and that is what I thought the answer might be. Now the question is how much efficiency (mpg) am I losing by not going up to the 4" exhaust system or is it so insignificant that it really doesn't matter?
Other than the visual view of the exhaust system will deleting the cat and dpf still allow the truck to pass the emissions test? If so is it possible to split the cat and dpf, gut them, weld it back together and the carcass back on or would this attempt get caught and end a person in a bad place? Thanks for your thoughts.
Be careful.
It depends on where you are.
In California, they don't like them straight people.
i am not sure on what you will gain or lose by just sticking with the 3.5".....i am sure there will still be gains.....i was sitting around 15 mpg on the hwy and by going to the 4" i gain 6 mpg i am now sitting at 21 mpg hwy
as for the the reply about gutting the dpf and cat......that would just be dumb that would cause you to fail you emision test just like if you were to take it right out and then you would end up having to replace the dpf at some where around $2000.......its not the look of it still being there that will make you pass a emision test its the actual function of it

There is no way there can be that much gain unless there is some other issue in your exhaust (restriction, plugged) to begin with.

I'm sure your gpm increases are coming from a dpf/cat delete and the addition of a tuner like a Spartan and not just going to a 4" exhaust, correct?
As far as the "stock look" the emission testing in TN have to first pass a visual inspection and then the actual emission test. So say you had a look alike bolted into your exhaust system and a Spartan controlling everything would the truck pass emissions?
It really doesn't matter to me right now since the 350 exceeds the 10,500 limit and isn't forced to be tested but I'm sure the day is coming when this loop hole is closed.
if you gutted the cat and dpf and used a tuner you most likely would not pass the test.......as for guys out there thinking of just gutting the dpf keep in mind you will still need a tuner with the dpf delete tune in it, so that your truck and ecm will run properly
haha the trick is to ask around and see if there are any mechnics out there that will pass it for a extra fee
