A 390 isn't going to get much better mileage than a 460, possibly worse.
A 351C may require gearing changes, and would only offer a modest change in MPG.
And neither will "bolt in" as the both have different bell patterns, and I'm pretty sure the engine mounts are different, along with exhaust, cooling, accessory drives etc.
Find an F250 with a 351W in it and a manual trans. That will give you a good combo of power and economy vs. the 460. But don't expect miracles--it's a heavy truck with truck gearing, truck tires and truck aerodynamics.
im sure the money spent on doing the swap will exceed the fuel savings. i have a 351 and get 10mpg....yeah very fuel effecient
Whats wrong there, im sure if you're only getting 10 with a 351 then yo gotta be lifted, heavy or geared. My 302 now gets 17 = ) im going to miss that.
Im talking highway, i live in a rural area so to go to where i would have even close to city driving is about 30 minutes so most of my driving is 60-65mph.
A 390 will likely get WORSE mpg than a 460.....
Consider this too.......a 351 working its guts out under a heavy load will get worse mpg than a 460 working far less hard with that same load......(not to disrespect the 351w, I think its a great motor too.)
the 370 is a junk industrial motor. i blew my 460 about 7 years ago and i was thinking about using a 370 i found for cheap and my mechanic<heavy duty truck and tractor shop owner> told my not to buy a 370 unless i needed an anchor for a yacht
