gas milage

i put a 3in body lift on my 04 xlt with 31in tires my gas miles have been cut in half talk to me

Well, the increased ride height means your truck catches more air and this air does not as easily pass around the underside of the truck. This will penalize your economy.

The larger tires increase load on the engine, requiring you to apply more throttle to overcome it. This will decrease your mileage a lot.

Have you actually corrected for the actual size increase? If you use a larger tire, your travel distance and speed will be greater than what the speedometer and odometer report. If you get the speedometer recalibrated for this, you will get an accurate readout, but if you have not taken this into account then your mileage might be better than what you think. If your stock tires were say 26", you have increased your travel distance by 19%, so your economy will actually be 19% better than what you would think. Your mileage will still have dropped, but not by half, factoring the speedo difference, the mileage will have dropped by 30%.
